Plagiarism Policy
The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence, Law and Social Sciences (IJAILSS) maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism in all its forms.
Definition of Plagiarism
- Direct plagiarism: Verbatim copying without quotation marks and proper citation.
- Paraphrasing plagiarism: Rewording another's work without attribution.
- Self-plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without disclosure.
- Mosaic plagiarism: Combining phrases from multiple sources without acknowledgment.
- Legal text misattribution: Failing to cite judicial opinions, statutes, or legal commentary.
- Data and code plagiarism: Using datasets or code without permission or attribution.
- AI-generated content: Presenting AI-generated text as original work without disclosure.
Plagiarism Detection
All manuscripts are screened using iThenticate and Turnitin. The editorial team reviews similarity reports with attention to overall similarity index, matched sources, and properly quoted material.
Acceptable Similarity Thresholds
- Below 15% (excluding references and quoted material): Generally acceptable.
- 15%–25%: Reviewed carefully for potential concerns.
- Above 25%: Flagged for detailed assessment; may be returned or rejected.
Consequences of Plagiarism
IJAILSS follows COPE guidelines:
- Pre-publication: Manuscript returned for correction or rejected.
- Post-publication: Formal retraction notice issued; institutions may be notified.
- Repeat offenses: Authors may be barred from future submissions.
Special Considerations for Legal Scholarship
Reproduction of statutory language, judicial opinions, and regulatory text is expected and acceptable when properly attributed. Editors distinguish between legitimate legal citation practices and plagiarism.
